In Hellenistic and Roman times Isis was called Myrionomos (Goddess of Innumerable names). Amongst her names were: Isis Pelagia (Isis of the Oceans), Isis Euploia (Isis of good sailing), Isis Pharia (Isis of the lighthouses) and Stella Maris (Star of the Sea). The Virgin Mary later inherited this last title.
