Conference 2022 update and information for attendees

We hope you are looking forward as much as we are to the 2022 Pagan Phoenix conference in Bude on Saturday 12th March. It’s only two years, but it feels like an age since we last met up with everyone at Penstowe, and we can’t wait to see you. We are very aware that our 2020 conference was the last opportunity for Pagans in our region to get together and we hope this one will be a return to happier times and a day of celebration, erudition and fun for all of us.  It’s not long now until 12th March, and whether you have been to our conferences before or are a first time Phoenix attender, we would like to wish you a great welcome to the conference and to Bude.

The conference team visited our new venue, the Parkhouse Centre at Bude on 8th March and we were all really delighted with the facilities on offer there. As well as a large hall with great acoustics and well-equipped with PA, screens, WiFi and other facilities, there is a separate room for stalls, two lovely workshop rooms, kitchens and serving facilities, lots of social space, level wheelchair access to all areas, and a state of the art disability loo, amongst other things. The venue is run by the local council, and is fully COVID-compliant; very spacious and well-ventilated. On the day, Pagan Phoenix staff will ensure that all COVID regulations and measures are fully complied with by everybody. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please ask us.

As always, we will have a steward dedicated to looking after the needs of people with disabilities, and if you have any specific requests that you would like us to help with, you are welcome to let us know in advance so that we can plan assistance for you. There are a number of free parking spaces designated for disabled attendees right next to the entrance. Please also remember that we offer “two for one” tickets for attendees with disabilities who require the support of a carer to attend; your carer gets a free ticket (just tell us when booking).

The venue is in the centre of Bude, close to the shore and next to the castle. There is plenty of public parking next to the venue and close by. We will be catering for you throughout the day and if you want to stay on for the evening, there are pubs, bars and restaurants nearby.  We hope you are going to love it. We also hope you will join us in welcoming the latest recruits to the conference team: John of Ye Green Men who has taken up the post of technical supremo, and Phill and Julie who will be supervising catering. Pagan Phoenix southwest is a not-for-profit company; it’s there purely to support the Pagan community and everyone who helps out volunteers their services for free. We are grateful to them all, and if you think you can help in any way and would like to volunteer for future events, please do talk to us.

Our speakers (Julian Vayne, Robert Shehu-Ansell and Rachel Pollack) and workshop leaders (Anna Shepherd, Michele TW and Levannah Morgan) are looking forward to meeting you all, as are our stall-holders who will be bringing a tempting range of Pagan and magically inspired crafts, art, books and other products. We will be asking you when you arrive to choose which of the three workshops you wish to attend, so please have a look now at what is on offer and think about your choice.  Some old favourites including our charity raffle and the Fifth Elephant stall (our quality secondhand Pagan bring and buy stall for charity) will be back. This year we will be raising money for Cornwall Wildlife Trust.

Bude was, of course, the home of legendary Tarot artist Pamela Colman Smith for many years, so we hope that this celebration of Tarot for the 21st Century at our first Bude event will be a good way to honour the memory of a woman whose images are used throughout the world and loved by many of us.

Now we would like you to do something for us, if you can, please. We realise that the COVID situation brings with it constant change and frustrating levels of uncertainty and that this means that many of you are leaving it as late as possible to book your tickets. Whilst appreciating completely why this is the case, it does make life a little difficult for the organising team. As we are a not-for-profit company, we do need to know that we have sold enough tickets in advance to cover our operating costs. This means that we really need you to buy your tickets now, or as soon as you possibly can. In order to help you do this, we will be extending the deadline for Earlybird tickets until 15th February, so if you buy your ticket before that date, you will pay the advance rate of £20 (after 15th the price will rise to £25). We are also offering a 100% guarantee that in the highly unlikely event of COVID or any other reason forcing us to cancel the conference, all those who have bought advance tickets will receive a total refund. We can’t say fairer than that! We would really appreciate it if you could buy your tickets as soon as possible and help us out with this, please.

Its great to be back; you are very welcome to the Pagan Phoenix 2022 conference.
Bright Blessings from the Pagan Phoenix team: Levannah, Ian, Harvey, Michele, Eve, Addie, Bryn, John, Phill and Julie.
