The Phoenix Rises!

The Phoenix Rises!

The years of the pandemic have been difficult for everyone – and the reasons why we had to take
the decision to cancel the 2021 conference must be obvious to everyone.

As we have started planning for 2022, we asked many of our regular attenders to help us to think
about how we might re-shape the Phoenix conference for the future – ensuring that we will be able
to build the pattern of a regular conference that is stimulating and engaging for our core audience,
while at the same time reaching out to new audiences that might not have previously attended a
Pagan conference.

We need to make sure that we grow sustainably – and that we are able to continue our tradition of
successful conferences and events into the future.

We also need to recognise that this is a different conference world – one where old venues are no
longer open to us, and where the growth of technology opens up many opportunities for new ways
of bringing Pagans together.

You will have seen that we have started to act on this through our ‘Phoenix Conversations’ series of
filmed group dialogues, where we have brought together interested and interesting speakers in
groups around important topics and shared their deliberations with the community. We’ve had a lot
of positive feedback on this, and it will continue to be part of our work.

What does this mean in practice?
It means that we will be returning to a conference format in 2022 – but that we will be expanding
this to other virtual and in-person events around an annual theme. In 2022 the theme for the year will be Tarot.

This will launch with our spring conference at a new venue in Bude in March 2022 – where we will
welcome a range of in-person and online speakers, as well as providing a choice of hands-on
workshops. We’ve already confirmed a stellar line up of really first-class speakers and will be sharing
the programme on our Facebook shortly.

The conference will include many things from the past, and will continue many of the traditions that
you’ve come to love about Phoenix conferences, but will also strike out in new directions, as we aim
to ensure that we are able to continue to serve our community into the future.

The Tarot theme will continue through a new series of Phoenix Conversations, and in-person
workshop events run either by the Phoenix Conferences alone, or, where possible, in collaboration
with interested and interesting partner organisations.
